SFL offloads suezmax tanker for $39m

John Fredriksen’s SFL Corporation has agreed to sell its 2009-built suezmax tanker for $39m.

The New York-listed diversified owner said the ship, which matches the description of the 156,000 dwt Glorycrown would be delivered to an unnamed buyer in February.

SFL estimated net cash proceeds of around $23m after repayment of associated debt and an accounting gain of some $5m in the first quarter.

The company, which logged a fourth-quarter 2022 net profit of $48.5m, had a fleet of 18 tankers during the quarter, with the majority employed on long-term charters. Meanwhile, the scrubbed-fitted Glorycrown has been mostly trading in the spot market.

The fourth quarter also saw the closure of SFL’s $222.5m acquisition of four modern suezmaxes tankers in combination with six-year time charters to a subsidiary of Koch Industries.
