Siemens Gamesea taps Acteon for Butendiek offshore wind farm maintenance

UTEC, Acteon’s geo-services brand, has been awarded a three-year contract by Siemens Gamesa to provide subsea operations and maintenance services to the Butendiek wind farm offshore Germany.

UTEC’s work during the contract will be supported by Clarus, Deepwater, and Seatronics – all Acteon brands.

Under the contract, Acteon will perform annual subsea foundation remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) inspections, array cable and foundation seabed survey, and corrosion protection survey covering the wind turbine generators and the offshore substation.

The company will also perform a multibeam echosounder seabed survey of the array cables and scour protection. Deepwater equipment will be used for the corrosion protection survey.

This is the second deal awarded by Siemens Gamesea for operations and maintenance services to the Butendiek wind farm in the past few months. In November, Semco Maritime won a 10-year service contract with project operations mainly taking place from Havneby at the Danish Island Rømø.

Located approximately 32 km west of the island of Sylt in the German sector of the North Sea, the Butendiek wind farm is owned by OWP Butendiek and comprises 80 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with a rated power of 3.6 MW, resulting in a total capacity of 288 MW. The offshore wind farm has been fully operational since 2015 generating power for 370,000 homes..
