Solvang lifts VLGC orderbook in South Korea

Norwegian gas shipowner Solvang has been linked to two more VLGC newbuilds at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), holding entity overseeing the shipyards of South Korea’s conglomerate HD Hyundai, said in a stock exchange filing Friday it had signed a contract with a European owner for a pair of 88,000 cu m LPG carriers with delivery in the first half of 2027.

Industry sources have matched the Stavanger-based Solvang with a deal worth about $230m, which would bring the owner’s series at the Ulsan-based yard to seven units.

Last year, Solvang booked five 88,000 cu m vessels for construction at HD Hyundai Heavy, ending its six-year order drought. The VLGC duo opted for at the end of August 2023, came with a price tag of $215.
