TGS-NOPEC Geophysical appoints new CEO

Norwegian seismic specialist TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS) has announced the appointment of Kristian Johansen as chief executive officer effective March 11.

Johansen will replace Robert Hobbs, who is retiring after after eight years with TGS, seven as CEO. The Norwegian joined TGS in 2010 as chief financial officer and moved on to the role of chief operating officer.

Hank Hamilton, chairman of the board of directors, commented: “We feel very fortunate to be able to promote Kristian Johansen into the CEO position at this time. He has excelled in each and every role he’s had at TGS, clearly demonstrating a commitment to our core values of quality, service, integrity and growth. We are very confident in his ability to lead TGS going forward, particularly during the challenging market conditions our industry currently faces.”

In November, TGS announced the implementation of a global cost reduction and efficiency plan resulting in the loss of 130 jobs, around 16% of the TGS workforce. The company aims to reduce operating expenses by around $13m annually.

Grant Rowles

Grant spent nine years at Informa Group based in London, Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore. He gained strong management experience in publishing, conferences and awards schemes in the shipping and legal areas, working on a number of titles including Lloyd's List. In 2009 Grant joined Seatrade responsible for the commercial development of Seatrade’s Asia products. In 2012, with Sam Chambers, he co-founded Asia Shipping Media.
