USCG suspends search for missing crewman from containership

US Coast Guard officials on Wednesday night suspended their search along a stretch of the Atlantic coast for a member of a containership’s crew who had gone missing on Tuesday afternoon.

The crew member, not named as of Wednesday night, went missing as the vessel Ibrahim Dede (26,900 dwt, built 2008) travelled between Bayonne in New Jersey and Ocean City in Maryland.

The missing person was on board when the 600-foot freighter left Bayonne and other crew members noticed his absence en route to Ocean City, suspecting he had fallen overboard.

USCG vessels and aircraft from points in New Jersey, New York and North Carolina were involved in the search.

Marshall Islands registered, the Ibrahim Dede is operated by Turkey’s Turkon Line, and owned by Germany’s Kalkavan Shipmanagement.
