Wärtsilä appoints new head of Transas

Finnish tech group Wärtsilä has appointed Torsten Buessow as managing director of its Transas business, replacing Frank Coles who quit in September last year to head up Hong Kong ship manager Wallem.

Buessow joins from DNV GL where he was most recently global head of Fleet Performance Management, part of the class society’s Maritime Digital Business Unit.

Wärtsilä bought navigation solutions specialist Transas in March 2018 for EUR210m ($258m).

“I am looking forward to leading the professional and experienced Transas team. We will continue focusing on creating solutions to improve ship and port operations, and maritime academies by leveraging the latest technologies, including machine learning, Big Data analytics, and other innovations,” Buessow said of his appointment.
