What to look out for as shipping becomes sexy again

It was around the middle of 2006 that I finally got tired of shipping’s last supercycle. As a daily reporter there are only so many ways you can write: ‘Company Y makes another XX record profit’. Ultimately too, as a hack, good news does not sell. The decade that followed was far more exciting; charting an epic recession that took down many famous names in shipping.

Still, as green lights flash and plenty of sectors report very solid earnings this year I don’t mind admitting your jaded edito...

Starting out with the Informa Group in 2000 in Hong Kong, Sam Chambers became editor of Maritime Asia magazine as well as East Asia Editor for the world’s oldest newspaper, Lloyd’s List.
