Wisdom returns to Tsuneishi for handysize bulker newbuild

Taiwanese shipowner and operator Wisdom Marine is adding more handysize bulkers to its orderbook.

In a regulatory filing, the Taipei-based company said it would pay $34m for a 42,200 dwt unit to be built at Tsuneishi Shipbuilding in addition to a trio of 82,300 dwt bulkers under construction at the yard.

The country’s largest dry bulk shipowner has over 130 vessels and 16 on order, excluding the latest deal, according to VesselsValue data.

Wisdom recently paid $96m for a trio of 40,000 dwt units to be built at Saiki Heavy Industries of the Onomichi Dockyard and also ordered a pair of 40,000 dwt bulkers at Namura Shipbuilding, for $66m and delivery in 2026 and another two at Nihon Shipyard, a joint venture between Imabari Shipbuilding and Japan Marine United.

In April, Chinese shipowner and operator Seacon Shipping booked a pair of 42,200 dwt bulkers at Tsuneishi to have the vessels delivered by end-June and end-September 2025 for around $31.7m each.
