Man hospitalised as straddle carrier topples over at Port Chalmers
Dunedin: A crane operator was hospitalised today as a straddle container carrier he was operating fell over. The accident happened around lunchtime at Port Chalmers on New Zealand’s South Island.
“Our immediate concerns are with the driver of the straddle and his family,” the port’s CEO, Geoff Plunket, said. “Latest reports from the hospital are positive.”
Investigations into the accident are underway. The straddle carrier was less than 18 months old, while the weather was described as stable at the time of the accident.
The container terminal will remain closed until Thursday morning.
