Knutsen in for Hyundai Heavy LNG carrier

Norway’s Knutsen OAS Shipping can be revealed as the owner behind yesterday’s LNG carrier announcement from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). The Korean shipbuilder revealed yesterday it had bagged an order for a 180,000 cu m LNG ship, without specifying from whom. While no price was given, estimates put the contract at around $193m.

The ship will go on long term charter to Iberdrola, a Spanish power company, which is set to import 800,000 tons of LNG per year from 2019 at the Corpus Christi project in Texas.

After a dire 2016, HHI has now won orders for six ships so far this year worth an estimated $800m.
