P3 under scrutiny in Beijing
Beijing: China is running its antitrust review of the P3 alliance, the coming together of the top three container lines, Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM. Beijing’s decision is likely to be revealed in May.
A variety of powerful Chinese bodies have been asked for their opinion on the matter by China’s Ministry of Commerce.
When the P3 was first announced rumours in China spread that a leading line such as China Shipping would be thrown into the powerful container alliance to assuage Chinese monopoly concerns, but this theory has since died down.
Other key antitrust regional bodies have given the green light for the P3 to plough ahead. [30/01/14]
