Fire doused on giant Hanjin boxship transiting Suez Canal
Cairo: The Suez Canal Authority deployed five emergency response vessels yesterday to battle a big fire on a giant Hanjin containership. After three hours the fire was put out. None of the crew were injured onboard the UK-flagged, 366 m long Hanjin Green Earth (2013-built, 13,000 teu).
The ship was 48 km to the south of the canal when some containers aboard caught fire, Suez Canal Authority Chairman Mohab Mameesh said.
Navigation in the canal was unaffected by the incident.
The Hanjin incident is the latest in a spate of accidents to have hit the canal in recent months.
The ship is now undergoing inspections.
I wonderr what would have happened if ship caught fire in the middle of Indian Ocean? 13000 TEU sailing disaster.
Probably somethng like this would have happened

Well done SCA, it is not an easy task to contain or even extinguish a fire on a large container ship.
As a side observation – not the best utilised ship ever to transit Suez.
