Vietnam inks MOUs for coal imports
Hanoi: The Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group has signed 10 memorandums of understandings with companies from Indonesia, Australia and Japan for an annual supply of about 20m tonnes of coal.
The MOUs have been signed with Australian firm Ensham Coal Sales and Peabody, Indonesian firm Tuah Turangga Agung and Noble Group, and Japanese firm Sojitz Corporation to meet the demand of Vietnam’s thermal power plants.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade estimates that Vietnam will have to import an estimated 3m to 4m tonnes of coal in 2016, 35m tonnes in 2020 and 80m tonnes in 2025, as well as 135m tonnes in 2030, for producing electricity. [05/12/14]
