Awilco Drilling wins Shell decommissioning contract

Confirming a letter of intent signed back in February, Awilco Drilling has confirmed a contract with Shell UK Limited for 1983-built semi-submersible rig WilPhoenix.

The rig will undertake a decommissioning program of 18 wells, with further options for an additional eight wells. Operations are scheduled to commence on September 1 and the firm contract has a duration of around 330 days and is worth an estimated $38.3m.

WilPhoenix was originally signed to an LOI with Alpha Petroleum Resources, however in February it was revealed that a contract was not confirmed and instead an LOI was signed with Shell.
