Beks flips its only newcastlemax

Istanbul-based Beks Ship Management and Trading ends the year where it started.

Brokers note that the Bekmezci family has flipped its first and only newcastlemax after toying with it for a year, pocketing $1.5m on selling the 206,000 dwt Beks Brown, ex Cape Maple

In the first month of the year, the 2005-built bulker was added for around $15m from Japanese interests. The Imabari-built bulker is one of 17 bulkers in the Beks fleet.

Beks has laid down the winning bid for 14 ships this year compared to 17 last year. Its ballooning fleet list now counts some 44 ships valued close to $900m, according to data from VesselValue.
