Brief trucking concession in Manila

Manila: Starting today, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will allow trucks to pass through central Manila’s main throughfare, Roxas Boulevard, for a period of two weeks to help ease port congestion concerns in the Philippine capital.
Trucks will be able to use Roxas Boulevard from 12 midnight to 5 am.

”This is just temporary, upon the request of Secretary Rene Almendras, head of the Cabinet Cluster on Port Congestion, because of the backlog in the operations of the truckers brought about by the holidays,” a spokesperson for MMDA said.

A trucking ban across much of the Philippine capital, in place for the past 12 months, has resulted in severe congestion at the capital’s ports, to the point where liners have shifted calls to other ports or skipped the Philippines on its itineraries totally.  [02/02/15]
