Candler in for six MPPs at New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding

German MPP specialist Candler Schiffahrt has struck a newbuilding deal at a reborn Chinese yard.

The Bremen-based company has contracted six 12,000 dwt units for an undisclosed price tag at New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry.

The 140 m long vessels have been developed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI) to meet the EEDI Phase 3 and the IMO Tier III requirements for NOx emissions. Delivery dates have not been revealed.

The yard in Jiangxi, formerly known as Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, officially launched last March and recently marked its return to the European newbuilding market in a deal with Dutch owner Mercurius Shipping for four chemical tankers.

Candler currently operates six vessels under its management, including the oldest MPP, the 2004-built Elba, which was recently reported sold to an unnamed buyer.

Last month, another German owner signed up for up to eight heavylift multipurpose newbuilds in China. Hamburg-based dship Carriers selected China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing for four firm 15,000 dwt units, with deliveries starting in 2025.
