Captain of capsized ferry admits drug taking

Bangkok: Saman Kwanmuang, 42, the captain of a ferry that capsized about 1,500 m offshore from Pattaya on Sunday evening has admitted he was high on drugs during the sailing. The accident resulted in the deaths of six tourists with many more injured.

The captain told local police that the ferry had not followed its normal route and had smashed into some rocks at which point water poured in. The overcrowded ferry did not have enough lifejackets onboard, the captain revealed.  [06/11/13]
