Chartworld takes another cape

Lou and George Kollakis are making waves in the sale and purchase market, picking up one modern cape after another. Sources link Chartworld Shipping to the 179,000 dwt, Dalian-built HL Passion, bought from Korean owner H-Line. The 2015-built bulker fetched $36.5m after receiving a handful of bids.

In June, Chartworld lined up $41.5m for another modern cape, adding the five-year-old 181,000 dwt, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding-built Herun Zhoushan from Herun China Shipping.

Data from VesselsValue lists 31 bulkers in Chartworld’s fleet, of which six are capes.

The new deals come at a time when transactions for big bulkers are making the top headlines in broker reports across the globe, with capesizes and newcastlemaxes being the most popular ship types sold. According to VesselsValue data 15 vessels have been reported sold since the end of June.
