China tops PortMiami’s marketing agenda

Miami: When it comes to developing its business no overseas market is more important than China for  PortMiami. Bill Johnson, the port’s director, told SinoShip News: “Our primary focus in Asia for the next two years will be on China and Hong Kong, which are always among our largest trade partners.”

As well as Miami does in these markets, there is “vast room for improvement”, Johnson said.

“Much of our success,” he explained, “hinges on producing heavy-load exports for the Chinese markets.”

To this end, the port is working with the Florida Department of Transportation and multiple heavy-load export generators to help balance the influx of Chinese containers the port is likely to experience following the opening of the expanded Panama Canal.”
