CIMC inks seven newbuilds for charter to MSC

Dalian: Following on from its deal last year with France’s CMA CGM, China International Marine Containers (CIMC) has signed a $595m deal with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) to build seven 8,800 teu containerships. The vessels, which will deliver in 2015 and 2016, will go on 17-year long term charters to Mediterranean Shipping Co.

Following the expiration of the charter contracts, the vessels will be sold to MSC for $21.5m per unit.

In September last year CIMC concluded a similar deal with CMA CGM for four 9,200 boxships now being built at STX Dalian.
