Construction nears for North Sumatra mega port

Jakarta: Details have emerged of state port operator Pelindo I’s planned $1.2bn port project in North Sumatra. The Kuala Tanjung port will be based in Batubara regency, home to resources such as oil palm and aluminium.

Construction of the port, which will house liquid, dry bulk and container berths, would commence soon after concession rights from the government are approved. The Port of Rotterdam is actinf as a consultant on the project.

Phases one and two of the four-phase port project should be completed in 2018 and 2019 respectively.  [22/01/15]
