D’Amico takes back another MR tanker

Italy’s d’Amico International Shipping has exercised a purchase option on a bareboat chartered-in MR product tanker High Trust.

The 49,990 dwt ship built in January 2016 by Hyundai-Mipo in South Korea comes at a price of around $22.2m, but d’Amico said the final purchase price may vary slightly depending on the vessel’s actual delivery date, which is currently expected in mid-July 2023.

The Italian owner now has 36 product tankers in its fleet, of which 22 are owned. Paolo d’Amico, chairman and CEO of d’Amico International Shipping, said the company plans to keep the ship, which was sold and leased back in 2018, debt-free for the time being, similar to other purchase options exercised in the last few months.

The deal follows the $30m purchase option for the 2018-built 50,000 dwt MR High Explorer, which d’Amico exercised in January.
