Erik Thun again turns to Ferus Smit for four more newbuilds

Sweden’s Erik Thun has ordered four more new vessels, two multi-purpose dry cargo vessels and two coastal tankers.

They will be built by Shipsveerf Ferus Smit in the Netherlands. This order brings the current orderbook from the shipbuilder up to 14 vessels and Erik Thun’s current orderbook up to 15 vessels in total.

The contract covers two multi-purpose dry cargo vessels with 5,100 dwt and Ice class 1B which will operate Lake Vänern in Sweden. The two orders will complete a line of six multi-purpose dry cargo vessels on order.

Additionally, two more methanol-ready coastal tankers have been ordered. The two new R-Class tankers add to the six previously ordered sister vessels, bringing the current total number to eight R-Class vessels on order. Thun Resource, the first in the R-Class series, has already been launched and will soon be ready for delivery.

The 15 vessels on order are part of the company’s fleet renewal program and will be delivered continuously during a period of four years, from 2024 to 2027. Around the same time last year, Erik Thun booked eight vessels with Ferus Smit. So far, the shipyard has built more than forty ships for Erik Thun.
