Geneva Dry Dialogues: Bigyellowfish

Workplace tech solution provider Bigyellowfish will be on hand later this week at the inaugural Geneva Dry.

Dr Linda Sorensen, BYF’s chief commercial officer, is keen to work towards getting shipping out of its silo mentality, a message she and her team will be taking to Switzerland.

“We often forget the impact crew have on the vessels’ performance across any metrics in the industry. At BYF, we believe that relevant digital tools will allow us to cut across the silos and build synergies amongst the various departments within the organisation,” Sorensen says.

Furthermore, one of the pressing issues most of her clients grapple with is the sustainability of workforce both in terms of talent acquisition and retention.

With the demography of the global workforce getting younger with close to 70% in the age group of 19- 35 years old it is becoming “more compelling”, Sorensen argues, to adopt digital tools which are experience-driven, to allow self-learning on the fly and in an adaptive manner.

“Our unique selling point is the decision support we provide our clients through our behavioural risk management platform that converges wellbeing, collaboration, and reinforced learning for safety-critical frontline industries,” Sorensen says.

Currently, more than 60,000 seafarers benefit from BYF’s platform on a daily basis.

Designed to be the annual global summit for the dry bulk shipping community, Geneva Dry now boasts an extraordinary mix of shipowners, trading companies, miners and tech providers, with more than 270 companies due to convene at the Hotel President Wilson on the shores of Lake Geneva.

The high-level summit is split into relevant sectors to make delegates’ time more targeted and rewarding. Sessions include minor bulks; agri-commodities; coal; iron ore; and decarbonisation.
