Henna returns to China

Dalian: The HNA cruise ship Henna, which was detained on South Korea’s Jeju Island, has been released by authorities in Korea following HNA Group paying a deposit of KRW3bn to the local court of Jeju Island. The cruise ship has sailed back to China yesterday evening.

Shagang Shipping, which has a financial dispute with HNA’s subsidiary Grand China Shipping over charter fee arrears, made the request to the Korean court to detain the ship.

HNA’s Grand China Logistics claims that the financial dispute with Shagang Shipping is under the jurisdiction of British courts and that a Korean court has no right to detain the ship. It also accuses Shagang Shipping of violating the human rights of the passengers on board.

Grand China Logistics said it was suspicious of the ship charter deals between Shagang Shipping and Grand China Shipping, which has already been liquidated earlier this year. It suspects there might be illegal operations involved in the deals as the price is unreasonably high and Grand China Shipping had no business to use the ships. Currently the relevant authorities are investigating the case. [17/09/13]
