Idan Ofer’s XT pounces for feeder boxship

XT Shipping has added the 2,560 teu Hammonia Emden from Germany’s Hammonia Reederei, paying a hefty $12.8m for the geared ship, according to broking sources. MSI lists the fair market value of the 12-year-old feeder as $11m.

The ship made the headlines last year when it was arrested in Colombia with drugs worth $27m onboard.

This will be the first registered container purchase by Idan Ofer’s XT Shipping for a number of years. The vessel is the third feeder on XT’s fleet list and brings the company’s total number of boxships to 15.
