Islamic State targeting Israeli ships

Cairo: Egyptian authorities are investigating an audacious effort by Islamic State insurgents to hijack an Israeli ship. On November 12 Islamic State fighters hijacked an Egyptian navy missile boat with the aim of then attacking and taking over an Israeli ship in a bid to get Palestinian prisoners released, local media reported yesterday.

The Egyptian military, on realizing the ship had been hijacked, sent out planes and ships and exchanged fire with the insurgents, eventually neutralizing the vessel.

Cairo is also looking at the possibility that a foreign country gave logistical assistance to the Islamic State militants. [02/11/14]
