LR1 acquisition takes the Beks fleet to 40 ships

Turkey’s Beks Ship Management ascends to the 40-ship mark with its latest purchase.

Tycoon Ali Bekmezci has tabled some $18m for an LR1 tanker, adding the 2005-built, 75,000 dwt Faros from Greece’s Benetech Shipping.

For comparison, Beks added a sister ship, named Gulf Pearl, and subsequently renamed Beks Bebek for $20.4m in May.

Beks Ship Management is the most active Turkish player in the secondhand market. This year, the outfit has had 10 ships coming in and one ship shipped out.

In April, online pricing portal VesselsValue estimated that Beks’ fleet was valued at just under $700m. Now its fleet is valued at $782m.
