Manila port congestion delays Shell upgrade project

Manila: The continuing congestion at Manila port has allegedly delayed Shell's refinery upgrade project in Batangas.

Energy undersecretary Zenaida Monsada said the completion of Shell’s upgrade had been delayed by one quarter due to the port congestion.

“Shell will be delayed by one quarter because equipment cannot be released immediately,” said Monsada.

Shell Philippines chief Ed Chua said the collapse of a Batangas bridge is making it worse and the company is working on catch-up activities.

Shell started the upgrade project in 2014 with an estimated investment of $100m-150m. It planned to complete the project in 2015. [27/01/15]
