MCC teaching Maersk on costs: Skou

Long Beach: Maersk Line’s intra-Asia subsidiary MCC Transport has been a model for its parent to follow during the downturn, Soren Skou, ceo of Maersk Line, told SeaShip News.

“MCC is set up differently to Maersk with a low cost structure,” Skou said in an exclusive interview. “We are copying that cost model into Maersk.”

While Maersk has been known to fold brands into the dominant light blue brand Skou said MCC would continue to operate under its own auspices.

“The MCC brand will continue,” he said. “Some times it pays to have separate brands in different markets.”

With a history dating back more than 20 years MCC operates around 60 ships and managed sales of around $1bn last year.  [22/03/13]
