Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has returned to China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard for more LNG dual-fuel containerships.
The Swiss-based liner giant has booked ten 10,300 teu vessels for delivery in 2026 and 2027.
No price has been disclosed for the latest deal, which brings the company’s orderbook at the yard to 20 ships.
MSC has ten 11,500 teu LNG dual-fuel units contracted at the yard for delivery in 2025 and 2026, costing around $120m each.
The world’s biggest carrier has a large orderbook of as many as 60 LNG dual-fuelled boxships, some of which are also ammonia-ready, including the first units at Changhong International. Meanwhile, other top liners such as Maersk, CMA CGM and COSCO have opted for methanol dual-fuel ships while the safety of ammonia fuel onboard is being examined. The latest MSC series at the yard will be both ammonia- and methanol-ready.
