Otto Marine cements newbuild and conversion deal

Singapore: Offshore shipbuilder Otto Marine has signed an MOU with an unnamed Indonesian firm to build 5 cement carriers with potential for an additional two conversion jobs.

The newbuid cement carriers, to be built at Otto's yard in Batam, range in size from 7,500 dwt to 15,000 dwt, while the potential conversions are to convert 2 bulk carriers into cement carriers.

Garrick Stanley, recently appointed Otto Marine ceo, said: "Apart from our mainstay focus on the offshore and marine sector, concentrating on these services allows us to benefit from the growth in other sectors such as the cement industry. With the current versatility of our shipyard operations, the Group is widening our doors to more opportunities in order to boost returns and shareholders’ value.”

Additionally, a further order for a 3,500bhp Ocean Towing Tug was placed by the same customer. [06/09/13]
