Samsung says it has no intention to buy into Vietnamese shipbuilding

Hanoi: Samsung Heavy Industries, the leading South Korean shipbuilder, has denied comments made by Vietnam’s deputy transport minister that it plans to buy into the local shipbuilding scene.

Deputy transport minister Nguyen Hong Truong had said Samsung was close to buying into up to two yards owned by Shipbuilding Industry Co, formerly Vinashin, in comments reported on this site yesterday.

However, a spokesperson for Samsung in Vietnam contacted SeaShip News today saying the company has no intention to purchase yards in Vietnam.

Other Korean shipbuilding companies with yard ventures in Vietnam include STX and Hyundai Heavy Industries.  [27/05/14]
