Scorpio Tankers sheds one of its ships for $32.5m

Monaco-headquartered Scorpio Tankers has sold its 2013-built MR product tanker STI Ville for $32.5m.

The Emanuele Lauro-led company said that the sale of the tanker occurred this month. The buyer was not named in the statement.

As the vessel is unencumbered, the company will make no debt repayments associated with this sale.

This year, the company has often decided to use options to buy vessels, rather than sell them, with the most recent ones occurring in May and April. Scorpio opted to buy five leased MRs in May, more precisely, the 2019-built STI Modest, STI Maverick, and STI Millennia and the 2020-built STI Mighty and STI Maestro.

In April, the company exercised an option to buy another six leased ships – the 2019-built LR2 STI Lobelia and five MR product tankers STI Magic, STI Mystery, STI Marvel, STI Mythic, and STI Magister.

Last month was also an important one for Scorpio Tankers as it was able to ensure a financing deal for 45 ships worth $1bn.
