Seaspan plans 15 more orders this year

Hong Kong: Hard-pressed Chinese yards will be salivating at news from Hong Kong where Seaspan boss Gerry Wang told Bloomberg yesterday he plans to order up to 15 more boxships in 2013 of the 10,000 teu-plus variety. The Seaspan ceo said he was in discussions with containerlines over charter deals, and once fixed, orders would follow.

“We are happy with the price level right now,” Wang told Bloomberg Hong Kong. “We hope to capitalize on the situation. I have no reason to say the market will go down further.”

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has been the recipient of a number of Seaspan boxship orders, as have the big names from Korea.  [30/01/13]
