Singapore’s top yards deny Petrobras corruption links

Singapore: Singapore’s top two shipbuilding groups have moved to distance themselves from a major corruption scandal engulfing Brazilian energy giant, Petrobras.

The chief executive of Brazil's biggest company, Petrobras, as well as five members of the state-run oil giant's board of directors were forced to resign last week amid a major corruption scandal that has rocked the country for months.

Chief executive Maria das Graça Foster's resignation follows revelations that the company lost up to $33bn in 2014 due to corruption and financial inefficiency.

“Sembcorp Marine refers to various media reports relating to statements made by Petrobras' former engineering manager Pedro Jose Barusco and wishes to state that Sembcorp Marine did not make any illegal payment and the Group's policies and contracts prohibit bribery and unethical behaviour,” Sembcorp Marine said in a statement.

Similarly Keppel was forced to issue a release in which it stated: “We refute allegations made in  media reports on Keppel FELS’ involvement in the scandal surrounding Petrobras.”  [09/02/15]
