Sinosteel to resume Oakajee port project

Beijing: Sinosteel says it plans to resume the Oakajee iron ore port project in West Australia.

The project was approved in 2009 and was expected to ship iron ore from the port in 2013-2014, however it was postponed due to delays in infrastructure construction and increasing costs. Sinosteel put on hold the planned $2bn project in 2011 in part because it could not get rail access to the yet to be built port.

Li Kejie, Sinosteel board secretary said the port issue was holding back the company's plans for expansion and the company expects to resume the project through meetings with partners this week. [25/11/13]
