Offshore contracting giant TechnipFMC has been selected to deliver subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) for Equinor’s BM-C-33 asset in the Brazilian pre-salt Campos area.
A major contract, which the New York-listed company said would be worth over $1bn, follows a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study awarded last July.
Equinor had an option, which has now been exercised, to take the FEED deal to the SURF engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) stage. The contract covers the entire subsea system, including Subsea 2.0 tree systems, manifolds, jumpers, rigid risers and flowlines, umbilicals, pipeline end terminations, and subsea distribution and topside control equipment.
The BM-C-33 development comprises the Pao de Acucar, Gavea and Seat discoveries and is estimated to hold more than 1bn boe in recoverable resources. The block was acquired at the ANP auction held in 2005 and Equinor became the operator in 2016. The $9bn project was green-lighted by Equinor and partners Repsol Sinopec Brasil and Petrobras earlier this month with the first oil expected in 2028.
The SURF system will be installed in water depth of about 2900 m, which is the deepest installation in Equinor’s history. Japan’s Modec has been contracted to deliver a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel in 2027.
