TechnipFMC picks up more subsea work on life extension project off Angola

Offshore contracting giant TechnipFMC has been awarded a contract to install flexible pipe and associated subsea structures for the Girassol Life Extension project offshore Angola.

The contract was awarded by TotalEnergies EP Angola and its Block 17 Partners. The deal was described as “significant” meaning that it was worth between $75m and $250m.

TechnipFMC was previously awarded a contract for the engineering, procurement, and supply of subsea flowlines and connectors for the same project.

“We have good knowledge of this field, having built the subsea tree systems for the original Girassol development,” Jonathan Landes, president of subsea at TechnipFMC, said.

Girassol is an offshore deepwater oil field located off the coast of Luanda, Angola. It was discovered in 1996, marking the first major discovery in Block 17. First oil from the field was achieved in December 2001. As of November 2018, the rate of production was 220,000 barrels per day.

The Girassol field is comprised of 39 subsea wells, 45km of flowlines, 29km of injection lines and 70km of umbilicals. The subsea facility is tied back to an FPSO.

TotalEnergies is the operator of Block 17. Other stakeholders are Equinor, ExxonMobil, BP, and Sonangol.
