Too many “shipping centers” in China: Liu Mingkang

Beijing: In a group discussion of the ongoing National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), committee member Liu Mingkang, former chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) said there are too many so-called “international shipping center projects” in China which is a wasting of resources.

Liu points out that some low efficiency “shipping centers” use administrative means to control cargo and don’t let cargo to be shipped to more efficient ports which harms the industry, and this eventually will benefit Busan port in Korea as a transit center.
Liu suggest the government should make clear the relation between itself and the market, and jurisdiction on shipping between provinces and regions should be clearer too. [08/03/13]
