Tripoli threatens to bomb tankers

Cairo: The one tanker that loaded fuel from a Libyan refinery on Friday, seemingly ending a three-week oil strike, was done so not with the approval of the government and has brought a furious reaction from the nation’s prime minister.

The Libyan government is threatening to use force to reimpose control in its oil sector, which is beset by protest movements for the past three weeks causing a decline in oil production.

Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidan (pictured) said that a group of oil facility guards feuding with the government decided to "export oil without having permission from the government" last Friday.

Zidan threatened to bomb any ship approaching its oil terminals if the ships are not contracted with the national oil corporation.  [19/08/13]
