Turks pile in for more product tankers

A newly registered Turkish outfit named Canna International has emerged as the taker of one of two 2004 built long range product tankers reported sold by German outfit Chemikalien Seetransport at the end of the year.

Chemikalien Seetransport’s latest two sales are a Hudong Zhonghu-built duo, Chemtrans Moon, renamed Mooni, and Chemtrans Sea, renamed Nile. Both ships, 74,000 dwt in size, were reported sold last month for $17m each.

Canna International is registered in Lagoon Plaza, Istanbul, while the taker of Chemtrans Moon is registered as Celadon Seaways.

A raft of LR tankers was sold at the end of the year, encouraged by the opening of new trade routes. Other tanker owners from Turkey piling into this sector include Advantage Tankers who was last week reported adding two 74,000 dwt, Hyundai Mipo-built vessels, Alpine Pioneer (2010), and Alpine Pembroke (2011), for $65m en bloc.

The Turkish-owned fleet has rapidly increased in value since the war with Ukraine started.
