Ulrik Andersen steps down as Golden Ocean CEO

Ulrik Andersen has decided to step down as chief executive of John Fredriksen-backed dry bulk player Golden Ocean Group.

Andersen, who joined Golden Ocean in April 2020, will be available for the company until September 1, 2023. Before joining Golden Ocean, he served as CEO of Avance Gas and also worked at Petredec, Neu Gas Shipping and as head of the Maersk VLGC pool.

Golden Ocean’s chief commercial officer Lars-Christian Svensen will step in as interim CEO.

Ola Lorentzon, chairman of Golden Ocean, commented: “I would like to thank Ulrik for his contribution to Golden Ocean. He has led the company through a period of fleet growth and fleet renewal.”

“I would like to express my gratitude to the board of Golden Ocean for the opportunity to lead the company during a transformative period that encompassed significant fleet growth and required navigating a challenging and volatile macroeconomic landscape. I’m proud of the accomplishments achieved during my tenure, and I am confident that Golden Ocean is well-positioned for future success,” said Andersen, adding on LinkedIn: “There’s a time for everything, and right now, the time is right for a sunny summer spent with family. Let’s see what the future has in store.”

The Nasdaq-and Oslo-listed company with a fleet of over 90 ships booked a first-quarter net loss of $8.8m.
