Umm Qasr terrorist attack foiled

Dubai: Iraqi security forces in Basra thwarted a terrorist attack on Umm Qasr port yesterday, confiscating rockets and defusing bombs.

Explosives experts "managed to dismantle four guided rockets just 500 meters from Umm Qasr silo," said Jabbar al-Saadi, the chairman of the Basra Security Committee.

A team of federal and local police also defused two bombs that were found within the port premises, Saadi said.

Local authorities have blamed the attack on "terrorists," but they have not named who they think is responsible.

Umm Qasr is Iraq’s main deepsea port.  [13/01/15]
