US ready to deploy military personnel to safeguard Hormuz transits

US navy sailors and marines are training for a possible mission to board commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz to counter Iranian aggression, according to multiple news agencies.

Armed 20-member teams of sailors and marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the region would board vessels if requested and remain during the transit of high-risk areas in and through the strait. The military personnel onboard would work in coordination with US aircraft flying overhead.

Since 2019, Iran has seized a series of ships in the strait with some seafarers forced to wait months before being freed.

Comments

  1. Thank you Mr. Sam Chambers for recognizing the safety of our seafarers the world over and bringing it out to your readers / I sailed for 31 years as a Proud US Merchant Mariner / Now it’s getting worse in many respects / We need to back up the US Navy as they protect our sailors on and below decks to the max /

  2. Not disagreeing with the story, but the photo shows the closest “Marine” carrying an AK-74. That’s a Russian weapon. So the photo does not show American Marines. Makes a reader doubt the veracity of the entire story.
