Vard wins cable layer contract

Norwegian shipbuilder Vard has penned a new contract to build a cable-laying vessel for an undisclosed shipowner.

The hull will be built at Vard Tulcea in Romania and the vessel will be outfitted and delivered from one of Vard’s yards in Norway in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The ship will be designed by Salt Ship Design and cost between €200m ($218m) and €250m ($273m).

Further information about the contract and the vessel will be announced at a later stage, the Fincantieri-controlled shipyard said.

Vard has seen several cable layers booked at its yards, including Italian cabling giant Prysmian for delivery in 2025, Denmark’s NCT Offshore and most recently a hybrid cable lay and construction vessel by Japan’s Toyo.
