Vietnamese shipbuilder invests in Myanmar jv

Hanoi: Vietnamese shipbuilder Dong A Shipbuilding Industry Joint Stock Company has signed an agreement with Myanmar’s state backed Myama Shipyard, which will see $175.4m invested in the jv.

Myanma Shipyards will invest $89.5m in a 51 percent share, with Dong A Shipbuilding holding the rest, with the jv aimed at attracting foreign orders at the yard.

Forty-five year old Myanma Shipyard is known in the Southeast Asia region, and it is hoped the move will attract customers from further afield, ordering larger vessels of up to 22,000 dwt.
