Yangtze river cargo volume breaks world record
Shanghai: The cargo volume of China’s longest river, the Yangtze, cracked 1.8bn tons in 2012, creating a new world record for the sixth year in a row, in a further sign of the increasing shift of manufacturing away from the coast to inland areas.
Currently, there are 4,114 productive berths along the ports of Yangtze river, including 421 10,000dwt-class berths and ten 100,000dwt-class berths. Last year, the Yangtze River Shipping Authority invested RMB2.81bn to accelerate channel construction of the river and the development of new larger and more efficient ships. [11/01/13]
