Indonesia behind in MLC adoption

Jakarta: The government is not ready for next year’s implementation of the Maritime Labour Convention, according to the nation’s top seafarer’s union. With the August 2013 deadline looming for implementation there is a risk the country’s seafarers could be excluded from international trade unless Jakarta hurries up and passes the required legislation. The union has sent a letter to the president of the country plus two other ministries on three separate occasions with no response to date.  [07/11/12]
